Adobe PageMaker 7.0 for Mac OS and Windows can import native PageMaker files that were created in PageMaker 4.0 or later for Mac OS and Windows. In addition, you can use the Adobe PageMaker 3.x Converter, which is included with PageMaker 7.0, to convert PageMaker 3.x publications to PageMaker 4.0 publications, which you can then open in PageMaker 7.0. PageMaker 7.0 also supports the import and export formats listed in this document.

You can use the following methods to transfer PageMaker publications across platforms:
 -        Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
 -        The Open command (if you use the same major version of PageMaker on both platforms)
 -        The Cross-Platform PageMaker converter, to convert publications and templates created in PageMaker 6.0.x and 5.x for Mac OS to PageMaker 7.0 for Windows documents. The converter is available at no charge from Adobe's Web site.

Additional notes

To convert a PageMaker 3.x publication to PageMaker 5.0 or later using the PageMaker 3.x Converter:
1. Start the PageMaker 3.x Converter, which is in the Aldus PageMaker 3.x Converter folder. If the PageMaker 3.x Converter returns a hyphenation or dictionary alert while starting or opening a publication, click Continue.
2. Choose File > Open, then select the PageMaker 3.x publication you want to convert. The PageMaker 3.x Converter opens an untitled copy of the publication.
3. Choose File > Save As to save the converted publication. Give the publication a new name if you don't want the newly converted PageMaker 4.0 publication to replace the original PageMaker 3.x publication.
4. Open the PageMaker 4.0 publication in PageMaker 5.0 or later.

Since the PageMaker 3.x Converter is a stripped-down version of PageMaker 4.0, do not use it to make changes to objects in your publications. PageMaker 5.0 and later can open PageMaker 4.0 publications, but cannot open PageMaker 3.02 or earlier publications.

Converting a PageMaker 3.x publication may cause subtle changes to the publication. For example, lines of text may break at different points after PageMaker recomposes a story. For more information on converting PageMaker publications, see the PageMaker 4.x, 5.0x, or 6.x Getting Starting manual.

To remove the PageMaker 3.x Converter, delete the Aldus PageMaker 3.x Converter folder and its contents.
